West Malling Bypass
Having met with Jacobs Babtie at a conference in the beginning of last year NOW Wireless were asked to be involved with a number of projects aimed at reducing revenue costs for Kent County Council (KCC). One of the projects we are involved in is the implementation of the wireless communication and management of CCTV cameras and traffic light signals on the new West Malling Bypass, which was opened to the public in September 2006.
The wireless communication system proposed for the Bypass will allow information from traffic management cameras to be backhauled to the corporate network via either one of two schools in the area. This information would then be used to determine how the traffic signals in the area are managed which can also be implemented via the wireless network.
The system will use Mesh4G™’s 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz wireless technology to create a network across the new bypass with nodes installed on lamp columns, CCTV camera poles and inside Traffic Signal Controller Cabinets.
Data from traffic management cameras across the area will be backhauled to the KCC corporate network via 5.8GHz. From the central management office this information will be used to determine how the traffic light signals will operate across the new bypass therefore creating an easy and efficient way of managing traffic along the bypass.
